THE USEFULNESS OF THE UNWANTED ONE

I am glad to come your way with this intriguing topic : "The usefulness of the unwanted one"

I must first and foremost acknowledge Rev Robert Andoh of Assembly of God, Sekondi, Ghana, for the inspiration to this message.

Many a time, we face challenges that make us think that the world has rejected us. Sometimes we really can feel like nobody cares. We look for help and all we get is rejection. Society treats us like trash and we are condemned to obscurity. Some, out of frustration, commit suicide; others resort to bad habits that in the end destroy their lives. but... Hold on;

I am here today to give you good news. Never lose hope, for help is on the way. We will examine critically, five (5) different characters in the Bible who went through similar situations and how God delivered them.  I believe that using the same principles they stood by, God is sure to help us.

⦁ We will learn how these characters treated the situations they found themselves in.

⦁ The principles they stood by and how God delivered them.

Our first Character Study: 1 Sam 30:1-20

THE YOUNG EGYPTIAN BOY FOUND IN THE FIELD NEAR THE BROOK BESOR - 1 Sam 30:10-13

10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so weary that they could not cross the Brook Besor.

11 Then they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David; and they gave him bread and he ate, and they let him drink water. 12 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. So when he had eaten, his strength came back to him; for he had eaten no bread nor drunk water for three days and three nights. 13 Then David said to him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?”

And he said, “I am a young man from Egypt, servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me behind, because three days ago I fell sick.

The story is told of how David found this boy after David had no clue about locating his wives and all that were with them. Although God had categorically promised him success, he needed the wisdom to go through it.

It may be that God has even given us direction about an issue, apply wisdom to it.

We would learn first, about the demeanor of the young Egyptian, then, of David

THE YOUNG EGYPTIAN

This boy was rejected by his master, why; because he was sick, and the Master thought the boy would die. The Master thought he had no use of him again; but God who orchestrates things according to His purposes, knew what He was doing. The boy was pushed off the caravan and left to die. Although, in that field, there was no hope of survival, the young Egyptian kept his determination and spirit high. He might have said to himself, "Although I may die here, I will go a day further". He was suffering, struggling, with no hope in sight; but he pressed on. No food or water for three (3) days, yet he never gave up.

The first principle here is PERSEVERANCE.

No matter the situation you find yourself in, persevere, and don't give up. Although, there might be no solution around, fight on. Don't give up. You might not know when or how help will come in. Have faith in God and hold on! Offer a consistent prayer of help and supplication for God will surely answer. If the boy had given up, he wouldn't have been the answer to David's agony.

The unwanted boy who was left to die by his master, became the solution to David's problem.

(Permit me to prophesy to someone today, that, hold on for your victory is closer than you think)

You are a solution to a problem the world might be facing today. Just keep faith alive and persevere, help will surely come your way.

NOW TO THE ANGLE OF DAVID.

So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was [a]grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?”

And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”

According to the scripture under review, David and his men had ridden for three (3) days from Jazreel to Ziklag. They were highly exhausted, only to find out that, their City had been attacked and burnt down by the Amalekites. David's men were highly disturbed and wept sore. The Bible says they wept till there was no strength in them to weep. Some of them decided to stone David but encouraged himself in the Lord. He immediately called for the priest and sought the Lord.

The second principle: ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD

No matter the troubles that might come your way, ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD, and give Him total acknowledgment. The very moment you do that, the battle will turn to the Lords. He will direct and help you.

Prov. 3:6 says

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;     6  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths

Principle number 3: BE KIND

Despite the situation, David found himself in, he was kind to the young Egyptian. He gave the young man food to eat and drink to make him strong. Let's take note of this, that, David did all this good to the young man without first knowing what he David would get in return. It was after the young man finished eating and became strong, that he was able to show David, the way to victory.

Brethren, the victory or upliftment we so much need, is sometimes shrouded in basic principles that hither, too, we may take for granted.

God rewarded both David and the young Egyptian, through these principles. Never take them for granted. As we press forward in life, let's take the principles we have learned today into consideration, for God who watches over His word to perform will surely bless us,

Principle number 1: Perseverance

Principle number 2: Encourage yourself in the Lord, and acknowledge Him

Principle number 3: Be kind to deserving souls.

 Conclusion:

The unwanted young Egyptian, through God, became the solution provider to David. The lord can do the same for you.

God bless you.
